From the Annals of 1910

Miss Mamie Mills entertained at a delightful informal bridge at her home on College Street, in honor of Miss Neal, of Barnesville, who was visiting Miss Theo Mills.

Mrs. Lucius W. Goddard entertained with a delightfully informal bridge party in honor of Miss Corinne Nall. A delicious hot luncheon followed the interesting game.

Miss Maude Freeman, Mr. Lee Freeman and Mr. George Freeman were the delightful hostess and hosts at a lovely al fresco luncheon at their country home three miles from Griffin. A delightful several course luncheon was served, the long table set in the front yard. Pretty embroidered mats and lovely roses were the ornaments used for the occasion.

Mrs. Will Taylor entertained with a lovely dinner party especially in compliment to Mrs. Mary Roe Brown, of Macon, the attractive guest of Mrs. E.W. Hammond. The attractive home was fragrant with quantities of roses and the central decoration for the prettily arranged table was a large bowl of white and lavender asters, with misty ferns.

Miss Brenda Pulliam was named to the spring quarter dean’s list at Tift College. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D.L. Pulliam of Griffin. Miss Pulliam had completed his freshman year and was a member of Studio Players.

Miss Sara Moore was named to the spring quarter dean’s list at Tift College. She is the daughter of Mrs. M.C. Ballard of Griffin. Miss Moore graduated with the 1960 class. She was senior class president and a member of S.N.E.A., Delta Sigma Chi and B.S.U.

Benjamin Padgett of Griffin was named to the dean’s list in the School of Engineering at Auburn University during the spring quarter.

John Edward Hammond, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.D. Hammond of Griffin, enlisted for three years in the regular army. Hammond is a former student at Griffin High School.

Airman David H. Sandefur, son of Martha Sandefur of Zebulon, graduated from the U.S. Air Force personnel specialist course at Keesler Air Force Base, Miss. He is a 1984 graduate of Pike County High School.

Army Pvt. Timothy E. Bryant, son of Linda C. Holt and stepson of Fred W. Holt of Griffin, completed training as an Army military police specialist under the one station unit training program at Ft. McClellan, Ala.

Army Staff Sgt. George D. Mallett, son of George R. Mallett of Hampton and Helen Gibson of Rome arrived for duty in Kirch-Goens, West Germany.

Staff Sgt. Gregory E. Harris, son of Mr. and Mrs. R.E. Harris of Griffin, completed the security supervisor’s course at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Tex. He was assigned to Seymour Johnston Air Force Base.

Jody Weathington, son of Patsy and Rusty Weathington of Griffin, was named a United States National Award Winner in foreign language and an All-American Collegiate Scholar by the United States Achievement Academy. He is a graduate of Griffin High School.

The following area residents were named to the Georgia College & State University President’s List: Misty Perry, Shelby Rainey and Laurie Carroll.

Daughters of American Revolution representative Alice Pounds presented the DAR Award for Outstanding Work in American History to Griffin High School student Richard Chewning.

Scott Mahone and Queen Morris Mahone celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary with a candlelight dinner by the ocean in San Diego, Calif. They have a son, Andrew Scott Mahone. The couple were married at New Hope Baptist Church. The Rev. J.H. Miller performed the ceremony.

St. George’s Episcopal School celebrated the opening of its 10th academic year with a Convocation Service at the Gordon College Fine Arts Center.

Orrs Elementary School students were treated to their teachers having a bad hair day. The students met their First Accelerated Reader goal and all of the teachers showed up with bad hair.
