Proceeds raised through the annual fund-raising drive support the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation, an organization that provides care to those suffering from the devastating effects of burn injuries.
Spalding County Assistant Fire Chief Kenny West said SCFD personnel have taken this cause to heart because of what they have experienced on the job.
“We’ve been a part of this for 20 years — since 1990,” he said. “We’ve seen how bad these injuries are, so we want to do everything we can to help.”
West added that, while the men and women of the SCFD will not be at many locations Spalding County residents are accustomed to seeing them with boots and stickers in hand, he is hoping for an outpouring of community support.
Among the locations residents may donate to this cause are Huckaby’s and the Kangaroo station on Jackson Road, as well as many major intersections in town.
“We want people to know we appreciate the community’s support in helping us raise funds that go towards children in Georgia who have suffered burn injuries,” West said. “We hope they will help us again this year.”
