Former Spalding County Manager William Wilson Jr. has won the Griffin Exchange Club’s Man of the Year award for 2009.

“We really are pleased to be able to present this award to him,” said Mac Wren, president of the Griffin Exchange Club.

He said the honor is well-deserved and Wilson had done a lot to earn it. The Man of the Year award is given to those who have worked diligently to improve the lives of residents of Spalding County and is almost always given to a county resident. Wren said Wilson was one of six nominees this year.

“I’m just humbled and honored to be selected by the Exchange Club and to be among some of Griffin and Spalding County’s finest,” Wilson said.

He said he grew up knowing most of those who have earned this award and looked up to them all his life.

“I’m just proud to be associated with them,” he said.

The award will be formally presented to Wilson at the Griffin Elks Lodge at noon Tuesday.
