“We will have local candidates and the state representatives and the Senate,” said Farm Bureau Secretary-Treasurer Barbara Kreider.
She said state Reps. John Yates and David Knight, R-Griffin, as well as state Sen. Ronnie Chance, R-Tyrone, will be at the forum. So will all five of those vying to replace state Sen. John Douglas, R-Social Circle — Ester Fleming Jr., Todd Hilton, Rick Jeffares, Nicholas P. Day and Jim Nichols. All the Spalding County Board of Commissioners candidates will be there as well.
Kreider said in races where only one party has candidates, the primary will determine the winner of the contest.
She added that some of the candidates have not yet responded to the invitations the Farm Bureau has sent out.
The event will begin at 7 p.m. and last until 9 p.m.
However, she has asked all candidates to stay afterward for the ice-cream social, to interact with voters.
Kreider said the goal of the event is to make sure voters make informed decisions. She said the Farm Bureau has been organizing the event for the last 10 years in conjunction with the Griffin-Spalding Chamber of Commerce.
“We welcome questions but there will be no questions from the floor,” Kreider said. “Questions will be turned in ahead of time.”
Those interested in turning in questions should call the chamber at 770-228-8200 or the Farm Bureau at 770-228-2341, fax them to the Farm Bureau at 770-412-1010 or bring them to the Farm Bureau office at 1716 Georgia Highway 16 West, Griffin.
