The Spalding American 10/11 All-Stars were one out away from getting their first Little League State Tournament win, but the Toccoa All-Stars rallied for two runs in the top of the sixth inning to defeat Spalding 10-9 Wednesday evening at Tyus Park.

Spalding drops to 0-4 with the heartbreaking loss, as the gutsy local squad lost a three-run lead late. Toccoa finishes Pool A play at 2-2, with neither team advancing to play in today’s semifinals.

After being blown out in the three previous state games, Spalding was determined to fight Wednesday. Toccoa jumped to a 5-0 lead in the second inning, but Spalding came right back and tied it at 5 in the bottom half of the inning.

Toccoa took a 6-5 lead in the third, but Spalding scored four more runs to take a 9-6 lead into the fourth.

Toccoa scored two more runs in the fifth, but Spalding’s Dylan O’Kelley struck out the side to keep his team’s lead at 9-8.

Toccoa showed some spunk and got its two runs in the sixth to take the 10-9 lead.

Spalding grounded out with Dontavious Ogletree on second base in the sixth to end the game.

Ogletree, Ryan Stover, Tobias Terrell and Donavan Kirkland each scored two runs for Spalding.

Kirkland had a triple, Cole Kennedy ripped two doubles and Tyree Davis also had a 2-run double for Spalding.
