Limited war not an option

To the editor: I think it is incredible that this nation apparently has not learned from our past wars that we cannot fight a war by the enemies’ rules. Does no one remember that we won World War II by bombing the enemy cities, factories, power plants, dams and anything else of value? And that it was done, civilian casualties notwithstanding?

We cannot successfully fight their kind of war where enemy troops are dressed like civilians and hide amongst those civilians. Where we strike a suspected target, we are damned if innocent civilians are killed.

In the Middle East, we are fighting people who place no value on life and are willing to die for their perverted cause. In World War II, the Japanese credo was to die for the emperor and bring honor to their family.

Limited war is a failure. We must wage total war or get out. Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
