SPORTS BRIEFS: Saturday is free sight-in day at Griffin Gun Club

The Griffin Gun Club will host its annual Sighting-In-Day on from 8 a.m., until 3 p.m. The event, at 520 Amelia Road in northeastern Spalding County, is open to all.

Club members with gunsmith experience will be on hand to assist. The Griffin Gun Club will also provide targets, and eye and ear protection. However, attendees must bring their own ammunition.

FREE LOCAL HUNTER SAFETY COURSES: Quail Forever, in conjunction with the Department of Natural Resources, Griffin Gun Club and Devotie Baptist Church, is offering free hunter safety courses. Upcoming classes include:

n Oct. 5 from 6-8 p.m., in CD rom class format at Devotie Baptist Church, 1355 Experiment St., in Griffin.

n Nov. 4 from 6-8 p.m., in CD rom class format at Devotie Baptist Church, 1355 Experiment St., in Griffin.

n Dec. 2 from 6-8 p.m., in CD rom class format at Devotie Baptist Church, 1355 Experiment St., in Griffin.

NRA RANGE SAFETY OFFICER TRAINING COURSE: An NRA Range Safety Officer Training Course will be offered from 8 a.m., until 6 p.m., Oct. 9 at the Ole Mill 4-H Range Complex in Griffin. Cost is $40. The fee includes registration, course materials and lunch. An additional fee for NRA certificiation is $26 for members/ $36 for non-members, payable to the NRA after successfully completing the course.

Checks for $40 should be made payable to: Spalding County 4-H; P.O. Box 277; Griffin, Ga. 30224. E-mail Carol Gulliford at uga2255@uga.edu to pre-register. Please pre-register by Sept. 24. The range, located at 129 North Searcy Ave., sits on the corner of N. Searcy and Broadway Street.
